Synopsis

Tish Hinojosa's voice radiates warmth, grace, tenderness... a hundred adjectives don't do it justice. Whether she sings in Spanish or English, this Tejano singer delivers a melodic and rich-sounding album that's only eight songs deep. (And one of eight, the completely charming "Arbolito," is an English version of the opening track, which is sung in Spanish!) "Building #9" is a social-consciousness-raiser about single moms and their power to give their children the necessary personal tools to make it, and while that sounds stiff on the surface, in Hinojosa's hands, it fits right in with the mood of the season. Built with a mostly acoustic attack and that heaven-sent voice, Memorabilia Navideña is that rare kind of Christmas record that you can play any time of the year. A find--and a joy! --Martin Keller

CD Reviews

A "classic" Tish album for the Christmas holidays.
11/11/1998
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is one of Tish's best efforts, a mix of Spanish and English lyrics in songs with a Christmas celebration theme. Her strong, beautiful voice, intelligent lyrics, and excellent guitar backup combine for a truly memorable album."

"Christmas albums are mostly all the same... tired renditions of standard Christmas carols we all learned in elementary school. Country/western Christmas albums are often worse because they seem to be a checkoff item for the artist's catalog.

If you feel this way, you will enjoy Memorabilia Navidena ("Christmas Memories" in English). The songs are refreshing and from the heart... little vignettes from Tish's childhood in Texas. You will find yourself listening to it during the rest of the year as well... not only because the songwriting is real and tender but because Tish has a gorgeous voice.

She's great live too..."
