Post-Rock Garage Band

"Usually if an album gets called "post-rock," I'm expecting something polished to a sheen (Mono). Timeout Drawer isn't like that. They have some of the icy atmospherics and instrumental surges I expect, but there's always a slight faltering, as if a beat collapse is just a drum fill away.
That's a compliment. Because unlike most post-rock (or instrumental, whatever) bands, the Timeout Drawer actually lets you hear them play. The songs sound like they come from a practice space, not a research lab. Even the keyboards come with a human touch. It was the same with their release Nowonmai; Alone is possibly a better introduction to the band, since it's shorter--easier to get a grasp on. Skip Mono; start here."
