"This is a recording that's virtually unclassifiable. Orientalized jazz? Consonant free improv? Paul Bley meets New Age? John Tilbury meets Chick Corea? I don't know. Brennan's an Irish pianist who lives in Switzerland; Patumi is an Italian bassist who lives in China. Their music is thus "world music" in the most literal sense, but otherwise doesn't fit that genre either. The simplest way to figure out what they're up to is to give this a listen--it's gorgeous but not cloying. Brennan varies his piano with a little work inside the instrument & some brief & rather effective excursions on melodica. Patumi gets a nicely full, direct sound that often to my ears sounds rather like Lisle Ellis's work on _Kaleidoscopes_, his great duo disc with Paul Plimley.A charming & enjoyable disc. Leo Records is usually known for avantgarde jazz releases; this disc however is, though certainly not "mainstream", definitely approachable for listeners of any aesthetic bent. Do try."
