"Berkelee Collge of Music Guitar Professor Tim Miller's sound successfully bridges the gap between the current crop of east-coast progressive jazz guitarists (think Kurt Rosenwinkel, Adam Rogers, Ben Monder, etc.) and legato icon Allan Holdsworth. His remarkable electric-acoustic tone (achieved by close-miking the body of his chambered Klein guitar) however, has a natural chorus-like quality that is uniquely his own.



On this remarkable recording, he sucessfully distills all of the most thrilling aspects of modern jazz guitar. Leading his highly dynamic rhythm section (consisting of upright bass and drums) through this set of amazing original tunes, Tim displays a sophisticated harmonic songwriting approach that further reveals his debt to Holdworth. Tim's more succinct and organic songwriting constantly draws the listener in, though, rather than (in my humble opinion) pushing away, as some of Holdworth's solo work tends to do. This album represents a fully realized vision of what Holdworth seems to have been trying to achieve on "Sixteen Men of Tain".
