Utah Jazz center Thurl Bailey makes a strong RB debut with Faith in Your Heart. With a rich bass voice, Bailey caresses original songs which he penned with established songwriters James Marsden, Sam Cardon, and Marwenna Diame, among others. He covers Jill Jackson and Sy Miller's classic CCM hymn "Let There Be Peace on Earth" in a beautiful RB arrangement. He also covers Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher's perennial favorite "You Are So Beautiful." From start to finish Faith in Your Heart has great production values. The tracks sound smooth and sophisticated, his voice is mellifluous, and the lyrics are all upbeat yet quite touching. The fourth track "Any Old Time" is a wonderful tribute to lasting relationships, while "All the While" is a hymn to the gospel, an ode to which ever-popular singer Felicia Sorensen lends her talents. "On the Up" is a fun and funky piece that celebrates being saved from the wrong path: "I was going down, down/Now I'm on the up/Ever since you rescued me/I've been coming up/I was down, down/But no I'm on the up/Ever since you rescued me/I've been coming, I'm coming up."
