Synopsis

Album Description
A true child of "Nuggets", Thee Fourgiven was born of the post Ã"80s Paisley Underground scene in Los Angeles/San Diego between the years of '84 and '88. The group released three albums on Dionysus, did two tours of Europe where they had a rabid (following in Italy and Germany) and amassed heavy airplay from RODNEY ON THE ROQ, national college and alternative radio. Thee Fourgiven went a step further than most of their garage-rock piers by taking influences from beyond 1966; surf, Blue Cheer, Alice Cooper, The Cramps, exotica and throwing them in a stew of their own. "It Ain't Pretty Down Here" was the first official full-length LP on Dionysus. This CD includes the engire first LP plus the best tracks from Thee Fourgiven's "Testify" and "Salvation Guaranteed" LPs. This is also an enhanced CD with a rare video for the song "Anything."

CD Reviews

THEE FOURGIVEN RULES!!!
B. orr | Santa Cruz Mountains | 09/28/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Hard to believe the first reviewer, Seamus, thinks Lee Joseph was the singer for Thee Fourgiven. Lee was very cool, but get a clue dude! He's right about one thing though . . . five stars! Thee Fourgiven ruled!!! They were head and shoulders above most of the pretenders that emerged from the 80's Paisley Revival. They had the benefit of a great singer, songwriter, guitarist and sonic visionary . . . RICH COFFEE! Thee Fourgiven didn't copy 60's garage cliches as much as they invented their own sound and language and kicked some [...] with it. I wish I would have seen them live! This disc also contains a few tracks from the excellent 'Testify' LP. I just pray that 'Testify' gets a full CD re-issue also, because the sound quality of this re-master is great! Buy all the vinyl if you can find it. A lot of that Paisley stuff deserved to slip through the cracks, but Thee Fourgiven will stand the test of time. This is joyous noize!!! If you have any interest in great garage rock, do yourself a favor and check this CD out. Also check out Coffee's other band The Tommyknockers. They carried on in a very similar vein. If you dig this, you'll wanna check out The Tommyknocker releases. I gotta go now . . . there's a Spider In My Sink!!!"
