CD Reviews

The Stone Coyotes Continue to Amaze
Michael R. Wilson | Houston, Tx | 04/20/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I do not look forward to new albums put out by artist that I admire. Throughout my life I have been disappointed. Surprise! Surprise ! The Stone Coyotes dashed that theory and simply amazed me with their gut wrenching rock and roll and outstanding lyrics. From "All Dressed Up" to "Wakeup" the songs are all great. "Rectified" with its tale of murder sent chills down my back with its driving beat and tale of revenge. "Stars in Her Eyes" is one of the best songs of childhood dreams I've ever heard. Barbara Keith's phrasing is outstanding. The Ghost of Vicksburg settles the middle section of tracks with a great sentimental ballad of the Civil War. Next crank up the volume on The Girls of America. Major Powers chords about Girls who wantto rock. My daughter is now an avid Coyote Fan. This album is great."
Not my thing

"Barbara Keith has a unique and interesting voice but, man, the monotonous (literally) melodies leave me clawing the walls for some harmonic release. After a while these songs start sounding like an auction or a horse race narration. I'd love to hear her tackle some more melodic tunes, especially with a tighter and more skilled rhythm section.

Rock AND Roll!

"Barbara Keith had an eponymous vinyl LP in 1972 that I tracked down and purchased on CD (well worth the effort) learning in that search about her subsequent band, 'The Stone Coyotes'. All (so far) seven Coyotes' albums are terrific, with, in my opinion, "fire it up" and "Situation Out of Control" being the stand-outs. "Barbara Keith" was folk with considered lyrics. Barbara Keith brings every bit of that intelligent poetic sensibility to hard-core rock and roll with 'The Stone Coyotes'."
