CD Reviews

5 Stars for The Red Chord / Clients - 2 Stars for the extras

(5 out of 5 stars)

"As far as The Red Chord goes I am extremely impressed and I truly hold this (and their debut Fused Together In Revolving Doors) in high regard. These guys walk such a fine line between grindcore, technical death metal, and hardcore and unfortunately get hit with the "metalcore" tag quite a bit because someone with an unexperienced ear has no idea what genre to pigeonhole this band with. Just know this, The Red Chord will appeal to anyone with a taste for violent, brutal, and unpredictable music and that is what I admire about them the most. It is refreshing to hear a band who's song structure doesn't consist of Ripped Off Swedish Guitar Melody, followed by a hardcore breakdown, followed by a solo, followed by the chorus. Clients is a fantastic album that musically ranges from brutally simple (Lay the Tarp) to mindscrambling technicallity (Upper Decker, Black Santa) and also showcases a "concept album" type lyrical base, it comes off as disturbing, intelligent, but most of all extremely pissed. If you are looking for a truly original band that does not need clean vocals, accoustic interludes, or keyboards to stand out then look no further, pick this up with Fused Together for an unrelenting musical beatdown that will leave you ready for war.

Now as far as this special edition goes, pick it up if you don't already own this CD however for those who do... This really is a shoddy cash in attempt for their appearance on Ozzfest by Metalblade Records the two previously unreleased tracks are Seven Seconds of Screaming which is exactly what the title eludes to, We Did It is just them messing around on stage live, and the other song is a scat song that will make you chuckle but that's about it. This gets two stars strictly for the live songs which although they are horrible production quality it is still cool to hear how gnarly these tracks will sound in a live setting. I don't regret the purchase considering it's like $10 but it was a little disapointing that the unreleased stuff weren't actual songs.

Buy it!!!!!! Or Die!!!!!!"
