CD Reviews

Swashbuckling! Cool! A ton of fun! Woo Who!!
Jack F. Chavoor | Fresno, CA | 09/16/2007

"They won't be in the hall of fame but this is toe-tapping, fast car driving, great fun. Check out disc two and forget the Ramones and Dr. Feelgood. This is the real deal."
Rock 'n' roll savages! Yeah!
Nuclear Snake | Arlington, VA | 04/19/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Pirates' two late '70s comeback albums for Warner Bros. were good, but they don't do the band full justice. The live stuff is what you have to hear -- and this turbo-charged, no-frills rock 'n' roll played tightly by three old vets does the trick. Remember, in the late '70s most rock 'n' rollers from the pre-Beatle generation were playing oldies shows, but no package tour could contain these savages. Similar to the vibe on Muddy Waters' Hard Again (although Muddy hadn't been away), these rabid Brits are hell bent on showing the younger generation how it's done -- and do they ever. This is straight to the soundboard -- warts, sweat, outbursts, banter and all. Even better, these guys could really play and work up a storm as tight as anyone out there. Mick Green upholds his exalted reputation as a rock guitar god, while Johnny Spence grunts it up on vocals and plays bass in perfect sync with drummer Frank Farley. This -- along with all the great punk bands on both sides of the Atlantic -- is what the late '70s should really have been about, not all that disco and sanitized AOR/classic rock B.S."

"They're the sons of the Johnny Burnette Rock and Roll Trio and the fathers of Doctor Feelgood."Shakin'at the BEEB" is simply the best rockabilly and pub rock you can hear.Buy it and enjoy."
