CD Reviews

Something 12 "pale" jurers and a radio edit can't Contain
TastyBabySyndrome | "Daddy Dagon's Daycare" - Proud Sponsor of the Lit | 07/03/2002

"After the radio edited, softcore version of Mr. Bigg's "Trial Time" started getting increasing amounts of recently birthed exposure (the frequency of which depending on where you live and how mainstreamed your tastes are), a lot of people have begun to stand up and pay attention. And while this song is indeed entertaining in its edited format, it lacks many things, most noticeably the absence of a ton of removed profanity and crack slinging references, that make this song a gem. By hearing it, you aren't actually provided a fair assessment of what Mr. Bigg - drug dealer/killer primed - brings to the table. Besides having catchy beats that, as another reviewer pointed out, you can "nod your head to," there is also quite a bit of lyrical mastery that helps him gain my admiration (and oftentimes my laughter) as he hammers out hit after hit. From songs driven by the realms of power and drug-ladened riches to anthems that glorify the artistry in blowing your "mammy's house up" and that rhythmically belittle women in the atypical rap fashion, you can see the clearly orchestrated portrait that Mr. Bigg is painting. This, by and far, steps outside the talentless "norm."For hardcore fans that like a douse of humor, its certainly worth purchasing. For the offended, those who think he's going to hell, well that's fine with him so listen on as well. According to him, "Hell ain't nothing but a whole new dope spot." Perhaps, if given the lusciousness of a chance, we can here something about dealing "crack that tastes like ribs" there, too."
