Featuring improvisations recorded live as part of the group?s popular Jazz Vespers programs, Fire in the Soul is acoustic straight-ahead jazz providing a way to further explore the common ground between contemporary music and timeless wisdom. Pianist Ravenscroft?s spiritually-oriented use of jazz and other contemporary sounds sets the mood for deeper thoughts and introspection, but the band doesn?t hold back and some cuts really smolder. These weekly Jazz Vespers services are set in a candlelit atmosphere amid breathtaking modern architecture influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright. A portion of proceeds from this recording benefit Ravenscroft Scholarship Programs at the Claremont School of Theology in Calif., with whom Ravenscroft is developing Music Serving the Word Ministries.
