The Avett Brothers' I And Love And You in 5 Sentences or Few
Adam Allen | 09/11/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"With Rick Rubin as producer, The Avett Brothers have stripped it down to the very basics leaving emotion at the forefront on I And Love And You. With the exception of a few spunky moments (most notably "Kick Drum Heart," "Slight Figure of Speech," and "It Goes On and On"), the album flows gently between acoustic guitar and piano tracks setting a soft tone that's fitting of its title. The lyrics are clever and well-written. On the whole, the album blends folk, country, and rock very nicely without leaning too heavily toward any of those individual genres. I And Love And You is highly recommended for fans of Bon Iver, Ray LaMontagne, Bonnie Prince Billy, and Ben Folds."
I and Love and This

"A couple of weeks ago, I made the mistake of watching Austin City Limits...it has already cost me $5, and it will probably cost me more before it's all over. You see, a band took the stage...a scraggly-looking four guys with an odd arrangement of instruments (piano, primitive drum kit, cello & bass-- with a guitar & banjo on a stand). The first song started and I was puzzled by the sound of it. The vocals were nothing to write home about, the lyrics were honest, but somewhat random. Then, as I continued to watch, I was drawn in by two things (well, the banjo might make three things): the passionate honesty of the music and the incredible harmonies of these two brothers (the Avett Brothers). The songs would not lodge themselves from the short-term compartment, so about 5 days later, I downloaded "I and Love and You" for $5 from Amazon. I've been mulling it over, and here's my best description of their sound: 1 part Violent Femmes, 2 parts Jayhawks, and 1 part Ben Folds. If that sounds appealing, check 'em out."
Fantastic!

"I'm not sure which CD I like better? Going to see them in concert on the 25th, can't wait!"
