CD Reviews

Now this is Geek Rock!!!!

"The Amazing Kill-o-Watts have been around for a while. Hailing from Peoria, IL, Iowa has become their second home. Their newest album Terror of Technology is a mix of older songs that they have been playing for a while and some brand new ones. The amazing kill-o-watts combine geek rock (weezer sounding) with 80's rock (devo). They also mix in some surf rock for a sound that will get you dancing and singing along.
The kill-o-watts combine male and female vocals wonderfully. "plug it in turn it on" is a great example of this. The kill-o-watts also mix comedy with their songs. Take the song "aquaman" about the superhero of the same name. Or there's the song "Gamma Ray Girl" with the line "Do you remember when I first kissed your face, do you remember spraying me with mace."
The kill-o-watts also have songs that would be labeled "emo." "We're just wasting time" would be one of those. Sung by the bassist, Marsha it also shows how talented this band really is. Another highlight on this CD is "Dumb Girlfriend." It sounds like a 50's rock/surf song. It is a song that you would expect to hear in a movie such as "Beach Blanket Bingo" or "Gidgit." This is another song that show the humor they put into their music.
There are some songs that keep this CD from reaching it's full potential. "Rearranger" is one of those songs. It isn't as polished as the other songs on this album. Likewise with the bonus song on the CD. I know it is meant to be funny but they have done it on this CD before with talent. The bonus song just doesn't have the musical talent the other songs have.
This band is a band you should definitely check out, and if you get a chance try to check them out live."

"This CD is fantastic if I do say so myself. Geek rock at it's finest. They put the ROCK in geek rock, no doubt about it."
