"During a time when radio is glutted with manufactured country stars who never met a coal miner, wouldn't know a cow patty if they stepped in one, and rely more on e-magic logic than professionalism, a spin through t spigot's "Experiments in the Hypnotic Production of Crime" album is a refresher course on the bedrock of the genre. t spigot, the world's first gay country duo, are still playing rural venues in between their network TV appearances, may be the voice of gay country, with their distinctive hill-country accent, their boldness in tackling social issues, and their ability to convey strong emotion in a storytelling style. This collection includes four No. 1 country hits while mixing in a few you might not immediately recognize, and allows the boys to be feisty in confronting the other man ("With Your Body"), tremulous in allowing Spunky to take Gilmore places he knows he shouldn't go ("Trip To Booker"), and skillet-wielding mad when reading each other the riot act ("Pass The Ammo"). In short, t spigot's sound is real, not gussied up or affected by high-paid consultants, and when you listen to their songs, you feel as if you've shared a conversation with them. Now that's the kind of country music you won't hear on the radio these days."

""Experiments" will have you spellbound as you listen to each track, tapping your foot/nodding your head to the beat, and your head swimming as the deliciously complicated music flows around you. Some of my favorite tracks include Hypnotic, which blends a subtle hip-hop feel with its spooky melodies; It's a Crime, which is a slinky little tune with jazzy guitars and an addictive beat; and Power Age - a positively superb track, combining some raw d&b beats and funky bass with a spectacularly uplifting main melody. You owe it to yourself to have this in your collection - especially if you want street cred with those indie-music types."

"THESE GUYS HAVE QUITE AN ADVENTUROUS AND DARING CD THAT TRULY IS UNIQUE. WITH STYLES OF DRUM AND BASS, AMBIENT, FUNK AND A WHOLE LOT OF "EXPERIMENTATION," T. SPIGOT TAKES YOU ON A MUSICAL JOURNEY SURE TO IMPRESS EVEN YOUR MOST MUNDANE OF MUSICAL LISTENERS. THERE'S NO VOCALS ON THIS ONE, BUT THERE ARE ENOUGH SAMPLES PRESENT TO KEEP YOU GUESSING AS TO "WHERE IN THE WORLD DID THEY GET THAT FROM?" THE SONG "SQUELCH" IS WHAT HAD ME EAGERLY AWAITING THIS DEBUT, AND EVEN WHEN IT WAS SCHEDULED TO BE RELEASED, I HAD TO SPECIAL ORDER IT. THANKS TO JERMAINE AT BE-BOP RECORD SHOP FOR HOOKIN' A BROTHER UP (AM I ALLOWED TO DO SHOUT OUTS IN REVIEWS?) AT ANY RATE, THE WAIT WAS WELL WORTH IT, BECAUSE "EXPERIEMENTS..." WAS EVERYTHING I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE AND THEN SOME. SOME OF THE SONGS WERE A BIT NERVE-RACKING AT FIRST, BUT THEN I REALIZED THAT THESE GUYS ARE JUST BEING CREATIVE AND TRYING SOMETHING... "EXPERIEMENTAL." NEVERTHELESS, T. SPIGOT IS A WELCOME SIGHT, OR IN THIS CASE, A WELCOME SOUND TO THE OFTEN INNOCUOUS WORLD OF CHILLOUT/DOWNTEMPO."

"It's hard to catagorize music given all the micro-genres out there, but if one had to put a label on t spigot it would have to fall somewhere between IDM, and Downtempo with a strong Trip Hop influence that can be heard on tracks like Car Thief and Sanshou. Other tracks like Random Acts of Kindness and Life Is Easier For Cats manage to blend chaotic IDM beats with a downtempo vibe, creating a very unique sound. This is definately something that belongs in any CD collection right along side the Herbaliser and Nightmares on Wax."
