CD ReviewsReflective & Profound 4th Scriabinmahler | UK | 01/13/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is a highly unusual and very profound performance of the 4th symphony, paced much slower and so much emphasis put on the deeply elegiac slowmovement. The whole music becomes meditative reflection on life rather than the celebration of life and youth. Svetlanov brings wonderful orchestral texture by allowing each instrument sing its part clearly. Natalia Guerassimova has lovely creamy voice similar to Gundula Janowitz.
If you are used to the usual lively performances, you may hate this one, but if you can accept Svetlanov's unconventional approach and understand his intention, this is well worth listening." |
