Synopsis

Album Description

2009 mini album from the Peruvian vocalist and songwriter. Seis Poemas is partly a tribute to Chabuca Granda, one of the great figures of Latin American song. Baca, who got her start spinning the poems of others into wistful melodies, also borrows from the verses of Federico Garcia Lorca, the Spanish avant-garde poet who was assassinated during his country's civil war, and in a nod to her ancestry she delves into Peru's overlooked, yet rich African legacy. Six tracks. Luaka Bop.

"For me, this disc is best enjoyed alone.

In the background, it can be like smooth jazz, in the foreground, the nuances of the verse are interesting.

The composition and arrangements are nice. Susana Baca can convey many conflicting emotions with her voice.

The music is good for relaxing or thinking, however, my experience is that people with short attention spans will find this disc boring."
