And no children's choir!

"For years I had been looking for a CD without slick André Rieu-romanticism, without Anglo-American commercialism and without children's choir-plus-baritone-or-soprano. And I finally found it in the form of this CD by the wonderful Rias Kammerchor. The songs are a-capella (so no instrumental accompaniment) and without soloists. Some titles will be readily familiar, others won't ring a bell perhaps, but all were arranged by Romantic composers, such as Felix Mendelssohn, Wilhelm Kienzl, Robert Fuchs und Max Bruch, with a starring role for Max Reger, whom I find much less impressive as a composer of large scale orchestral works than as an arranger of these beautiful, translucent miniatures. Quoting from the generously laid-out booklet I can wholeheartedly confirm that this "atmospheric CD is a timeless guarantor of festive thoughts" (This incidentally is the same as "Weihnacht der Romantik" by the Rias Kammerchor on a 2002 Harmonia Mundi CD)"
