Some songs, like "Tightrope" and "Wall of Denial," reflect that struggle. Otherwise he blends full-tilt roots-rockers ("The House Is Rockin'") with deep blues (Howlin' Wolf's "Let Me Love You Baby" and the angry "Leave My Girl Alone"), flat-picking guitar pyrotechnics ("Travis Walk"), and one heart-achingly soulful instrumental (the closing "Riviera Paradise") that stands among the most elegant fusions of jazz and blues ever recorded. He'd also finally gained full control of his voice, taming his usual sore-throat bawl into an instrument rich in emotional character. It was the first SRV cd that I bought. After hearing "Crossfire" on the radio I had to have it! This cd includes some of my favorite SRV songs;"Crossfire", "Tightrope", and "The House Is Rockin'". "The House is Rockin'" is represented by two versions, the studio and a live version. There are five bonus tracks. One has Stevie Ray talking and the other are live recordings of "Texas Flood","Let Me Love You Baby",the aforementioned "The House is Rockin'" and my personal favorite of his live songs, "Life Without You". That live cut of "Life Without You" is more charismatic than any studio version of the song that I have heard. It's a real SRV gem!! There isn't a weak song on this disc!
