"I'm a Steve and Eydie fan and have a number of their cd's that are have been re-released on their own label, but found this cd disappointing, both in the songs on the disc and the overall sound."

"It will be the album which a fan of Eydie likes by all means.

"Besame Mucho" is splendid according to the title in this CD.

Optionally, I like "Remember Me" or "Tea For Two", too.

This is an album with an atmosphere good generally. Besides, the quality of the recording is excellent, too.

"Besame Mucho features great ballads performed by the talented Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme. They were married in real life; and their romantic chemistry shines though when you hear them sing so sweetly and flawlessly. These two could sing anything they ever wanted to sing; and that's grand. In addition, the quality of the sound on this CD is excellent and I really like that artwork, too!



The album starts with a great hit entitled "Make Yourself Comfortable;" Steve and Eydie sing this with panache and you can feel the love as they deliver this to perfection--and beyond! Eydie coos so sweetly on this tune; and it's a terrific way to begin the track set. Steve Lawrence also does a sublime rendition of "You Can't Hold a Memory in Your Arms;" this number has a wonderful musical arrangement that works well but wisely the musicians remain in the background--they never even try to steal the show away from Steve--and how's about that brass? "Give a Fool a Chance" stuns me with its beauty; this is quite a number! Listen also for the electric "That Night of Heaven;" "That Night of Heaven" is a classic ballad and I think you'll enjoy this quite a bit, Eydie never skips a beat!



"Besame Mucho," the title track, features Steve Lawrence singing at his best with the percussion and strings really enhancing the arrangement. I really like "Besame Mucho;" this number lacks nothing--this is all THAT good! "Too Close for Comfort" shines equally bright, too. I love it! "Fini" is yet another gem; the background vocalists and the flute give this a very sophisticated feel. "Adelaide" gets the royal treatment; Steve sings particularly well on this tune and he never lets go of a superfluous note! "Frenesi" is also very well done--this classic tune gets a somewhat different arrangement than I'm used to hearing but it all holds its own very well.



"A Girl Can't Say" shines as Eydie sings it faultlessly; and "The Knickerbocker Mambo" sports that late 1950s/early 1960s Latin flavor that always delights my ear. "Ethel, Baby" features an elegant piano arrangement; and "Kiss Me Now (We'll Get Acquainted Later)" also has that Latin feel that I love to hear.



"If You Would Say You're Mine" boasts an excellent musical arrangement that is truly very romantic and memorable; it's a major highlight of this album. "Willow" is quite good; and "Tea for Two" never sounded better than the version we get here! "Tea for Two" is another huge hit on this CD. The album even ends strong with Steve and Eydie performing "Close Your Eyes (Take a Deep Breath)." "Close Your Eyes (Take a Deep Breath)" leaves me wanting more--I guess I'll be listening to more Steve and Eydie CDs later on today!



Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme were a formidable duo; they will always remain true masters of song. I highly recommend this album for their fans; and people who like classic pop vocals with a Latin twist will enjoy this CD, too. Catch them in concert if you can!
