The stripped-down approach calls all the more attention to the songs, and the songs are superb, from the self-laceration of "I'm The One I Despise", combining a lyric that bites like Elvis Costello's with a guitar that weeps like George Harrison's to the Zen lullaby of "The Monkey Mind Is On The Prowl"...the melodic lilt, the bittersweet yearning, and the seductive catchiness that insinuates itself within the listener's ear and quickly takes command of his brain waves...the strength of the songcraft collapses the distinction between alt-country and really smart pop.""

"After reading the Chicago Reader review I thought I'd take a chance and I am not sorry.. this CD is just great. I've played it nonstop at least 10 times. I can't quit! Steve Dawson has a beautiful pop voice and each song is impossibly catchy and VERY cool at the same time. I can't wait to see him live. I love this record."
