"If you're a fan of the breathy tenor playing of Stan Getz, or just a fan of beautiful jazz, this is a must. Stan Getz Plays has been one of my favorites for a few years now. It's a collection of old American standards played by Stan in a small group setting with jazz notables like Jimmy Raney, Max Roach, Jimmy Rowles and Duke Jordan. The songs are gorgeous, but maybe a little too short. Stella By Starlight and 'Tis Autumn only last about four minutes each when I feel I could listen to them all day. But why carp? Stan even does an incredible version of Thanks For The Memories (yeah, the Bob Hope song) that'll nearly bring you to tears. This is definitely much more middle of the road than some of Stan's other stuff, but I strongly suggest it as something to accompany that next rainy afternoon or quiet dinner."
