Synopsis

Album Description
First release from versatile Boston-based singer-songwriter. Eleven folk/pop songs include blues-based rockers ("Sleeping on the Sidewalk," "Fugitive"), rock/country crossovers ("Driving in the Country," "Yo-Yo"), jazz-influenced ballads ("Sight of Snow," "New York City Woman") James Taylor and CSN influences ("West on 80," "Yellow island"), and the folk/rock anthem "Leaving Seattle." Stories of the road and romance emerge from the lyrics, and the tight arrangements feature lead acoustic and electric guitars, organ, harmonica, mandolin, and violin. Alleyways was recorded over the span of six months in early 2001 at the studio of well-known Central PA producer/engineer/guitarist Chris younken. Featured musicians include Berklee-schooled drummer Scott Shenyo, folk- and jazz-influenced (respectively) upright bassists Leslie Dyer and Tom Jordan, classically trained guitarist/violinist/mandolinist Steve Buckalew, and backup vocalist Katy Dawn Twoey, best-known for her work with East-coast touring band Out of the Blue. Jon Rounds, guitarist for longtime regional favorites Cartoon, makes a special appearance on "Northern Lullaby."
