Synopsis

Product Description
ODDITIES is a perfect name for this Spring Heel Jack disc. Not only are these rare and hard-to-find recordings; they'realso some of the more extreme excursions members Coxon and Wales have recorded. There's nothing here that could be considered jungle or drum-and-bass; instead, SHJ's penchant for dense, dissonant textures and 20th century classical music, previously only hinted at, is brought completely to the fore.
Soundscapes such as "Piece for Six Turntables", "2nd Piece for La Monte Young", and "Trouble" (for DJ Trouble of experimental New Jersey radio station WFMU), are sure to be a challenge for some; others won't be able to get enough of them. Take special note of SHJ's reworking of William Burroughs' "The Road to the Western Lands", which new soundtrack makes Burroughs' monologue sound all the more ominous.

CD Reviews

Odd Indeed

(3 out of 5 stars)

"But overall, I enjoyed this disk. If you like the oodball track that SHJ throws on each album (such as 'Galapagos 3') then you'll enjoy this cd too. Heck if you like Lennon/Yoko's 'Revolution 9' from the White Album, then you should definitely buy this disk! There's something very playful going on here. SHJ are just messing around creating quirky electronic music/noise. It's kinda refreshing in strange way. I give them guts for releasing this cd."
