Synopsis

Album Description
Recorded during their 1986 "Through The Barricades" tour, this 2CD set is the audio companion to the recent DVD release of the same name. Although the band is best known for either their early 'New Romantic' synth-funk recordings or the blue-eyed soul of later singles like 'True, this tour saw the band turning up the guitar and rocking a bit more than usual. All the hits are here including 'To Cut A Long Story Short', 'Gold', 'Only When You Leave', 'How Many Lies' and, of course, 'True'. This 19 track enhanced compilation album also features the live video for 'Revenge For Love'. Columbia. 2005.

CD Reviews

Spandau in its element! Magnificent!
Athomas | Cambridge, MD USA | 11/03/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"From the opening cues of Prokofievs' 'Dance of the Knights' to the stunning climax of 'Fight for Ourselves', this concert, which was recorded during the Through the Barricades tour of 1986, captures Spandau Ballet in it's prime. A band that took second place to nobody. A great mix of old and new songs, this concert, guitarist Gary Kemp has said, is meant to be played LOUD, I say the louder the better. Several songs here, like Swept, Revenge for Love, and Man in Chains, are heard live for the first time ever on recording, and they are worth the cost. If you like 80's pop rock, and Spandau in particular, this is a MUST have! Enjoy!"
Lizzy's LOVING this one!

"::waves at Star Trek Spandau fan again::

Ok what can I say about this cd that I didn't just say about the DVD? Oh yeah, the fact that it comes with quite a few songs that aren't on the dvd...if ya wanna know why, buy the dvd and listen to the commentary...and one of the songs being the ever beautiful SWEPT...well it's worth having just that song. Of course the rest of the songs are very good too, the sound quality is brilliant, this is a cd that needs to be listened to VERY LOUD..just like Mr. Gary Kemp tells us to! Again, like I said before, Spandau Ballet are a vastly different band live than they are on record, the energy of a gig is tremendous. The crowd definitely get into the band and the band just create their own, special atmosphere and are kind enough to let us in. They were really a fantastic band, and it's great to have these new dvds and cds coming out with stuff we've never heard before, especially the live stuff. Gary Kemp is to be thanked for that, for refusing to let Spandau Ballet slip into history without a murmer. If everyone thinks Duran were a great band you really need to give Spandau a listen, 'cos they ran circles around Duran and trust me, I'm a Duranie...it's not easy to admit that. Every member is infinitely talented and brilliant, and listening to the songs live you get to hear what a fantastic guitarist Gary Kemp is! The records sorta gloss over his guitar sound, but live it's raw and powerful. The man can play!"
