CD Reviews

An Artist at Work on the Jersey Shore
Mr. Richard D. Coreno | Berea, Ohio USA | 02/18/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This set is an outstanding compilation of three releases by Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes that were only available at the shows or on the band's website; Messin' With The Blues (2000), Going to Jukesville (2002) and Into the Harbour (2005).

Unlike many bands that are still around from the "Golden Era of Rock" (1970s-1980s), Southside has kept a steady schedule of releasing new material, but has not strayed from the classic R&B roots. The 39 songs demonstrate the artistry of Southside and his obvious joy in creating music without suits armed with flow charts and sales projections who are dictating the "viability" of each cut within the marketplace.

Though there remains considerable focus on Southside's work on Columbia Records and Mercury Records, this set shows that the past was neat, but there is a wonderful vibrancy in the present that fans should not ignore."
