Modern Jazz Don't Get Much Better Than This!

"This is a great disc, along with the earlier Stitt disc on CC. Stitt was really 'bout as good as Charlie Parker; apparently, however, he switched from Parker's alto to tenor sax as his career developed. On this disc, Stitt plays exclusively tenor; and his sound is quite different from other great tenor players, e.g. Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster, or Lester Young. It seems he's playing more in the upper registers of the tenor. Anyway, Stitt had a dazzling technique and an optimistic ethos. This is way-cool jazz, well done."
