Synopsis

Product Description
This is the premier recording of the first four harpsichord works of award-winning composer Edwin McLean, featuring the talents of the Miami Bach Society's Robert Heath, joined by internationally-known performer and lecturer Frank Cooper, and the brilliant young Greek virtuoso Grigorios Zamparas. While rooted in the contrapuntal style of the baroque era, the musical language is distinctly modern. The influence of both jazz and pop music are evident; guitar licks and Celtic tunes assert themselves - all woven into a rich tapestry that explores the unique tonal qualities of the harpsichord Composed between 1991 and 1998, the sonatas evolved into a cycle. The three-note motif that opens the first movement of the first sonata becomes the germ of of musical material for the other sonatas. The Sonata for Three Harpsichords finishes the cycle with reflections of musical material from the previous works.
