CD Reviews

Dark, punishing, and catchy
George Dionne | Cape Cod, MA | 04/13/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Good

A punishing chugga-chugga riff dominates the opening track "It Isn't Me". Zane delivers vocally like a man possessed. On the other hand, Zane lays down some great vocals on "Let Me Live". He hasn't gone soft, but he's found a way to remain edgy and melodic at the same time. "6 Months" is by far the most in-your-face track on the album. Not so much on the down-played verses, but the frenzied, drum pounding choruses. "Father" marches along with muted riffing and powerful vocals. The lyric content is sure to peak your curiousity as well.

A piercing lick and fevered drums help drive "Touch a Girl" over the edge. The combination of spoken words and sung vocals complement each other well. "Lord" is sure to make you lose control as it takes off with rapid-fire precision and concludes in a bloodied mess. The ax-skills of Sin take center stage on the instrumental "Enraptured", which is clearly an homage to Eddie Van Halen. "Wounded Veins" is loaded with industrial effects and tones.

The Bad

Zane needs to decide on one style of vocal delivery.

The Verdict

I must say that Society 1 have come along way over the years. Their latest album is dark, punishing, and catchy. If The Sound That Ends Creation doesn't end creation, it's gonna end something!
