CD Reviews

I disagree, The Smoke are Legendary

"How on earth could the smoke get such negative reviews? Their music is the real deal- mod mixed with psychedelia and pop. Sure their 70's stuff isn't quite good at all but the 60's stuff is pure genius. I don't understand how you bash such a great band from the era, I can only assume you can't appreciate 60's British music if you can't dig the smoke. Songs like Keep a Hold of What You Got (mod at it's finest), High in a Room, You Can't Catch Me, and My Friend Jack (psychedelic songs about drugs), Sydney Gill and many more are awesome. They had their own unique sound and to call the lyrics childish is just utterly stupid in itself. Stop giving good music a bad name."
Saw the smoke but missed the fire...

"... But in fact, the Smoke were simply a pop singles band that acheived their greatest success in Germany. The sound of their earlier material is comparable to much of the Monkees, Dave Clark Five, or maybe even Partridge Family material...slightly psychedelic but much more comercial pop oriented. In their later years, the Smoke transformed their music into a more Gary Glitter, T. Rex, or even Bay City Rollers style. I tend to lable the Smoke's music as happy comerical pop that should have been hugely successful, but somehow wasn't. This CD compilation is more than worth a spot in your collection, if you are into the bands I listed above."
