CD Reviews

Represent Angels, Represent!

"One of the best gospel albums I've heard lately is "Blindman" by Rev. Howard Slim & The Supreme Angels. Greg Kelly sings a cut called, Gloryland. It has the most uplifting lyrics and music I've heard in a while. It just makes you want to "get right cause Jesus is coming". He also sings "Never Knew Happiness Until I Found The Lord." The words are absolutely beautiful and he has just the range and gift to put the runs where they are most effective! Rev. Hunt does a story about a Blindman that really makes a great impact on audiences during his live performances. I've seen him live about four different times since the album was released and everytime the audience has sat there spellbound for his narration. Move over Dorothy Norwood. You just may be dethroned as The Great Storyteller with Rev. Hunt's new project. Well, you know how the musicians tore up the house with "Over Yonder"? Just when you thought they couldn't do any more, they did! Without a doubt the SUPREME ANGELS are playin music that lifts your burdens and restores joy in your soul. Represent Angels REPRESENT! This is one album you have got to get!"

"I listened to the new Slim & the Supreme Angels CD the other day and was completely captivated by the magnificent compositions and musical arrangements on that album. I have been a fan of the Supreme Angels for some time now and I have never been disappointed with their music; I find their style of gospel original and unique; there is no other quartet out there that one would mistake for Rev. Howard "Slim" Hunt and the Supreme Angels; however, when I listened to "Blind Man" I was so thrilled by the "new" sound that floated out to me from the CD that I just had to stop, drop and listen. The title cut, "Blind Man" is so beautiful to hear that one would actually think that they were walking down streets of pure gold. "Jesus is Coming" showcases the group's harmonizing and "rock the house" ability. Every song on this CD is great. Quincy King displays his talent on keyboard and organ and Greg Kelly's soothing tenor is refreshing and spirit-filled; but my favorite member of the group is Michael Kimpson. Michael plays bass is such a smooth and soulful manner that if you're not careful, one would think he is the Archangel! Here is a group of men that is anointed to spread the gospel through music. Rev. Howard "Slim" Hunt is an anointed minister and as always, has a message to deliver to those seeking the Word of God. This CD is a MUST for music lovers of any category."

"I admit I'm a little prejudiced because I actually engineered some of this recording, however, I have to tell gospel fans everywhere that the angels are possibly the funkiest thing out there on gospel radio. No matter if your into gospel or not your gonna love this one. It's down and dirty Southern style blues based grooves will make you jump. I was on a cross country trek from the Atl. to Okc. and had my radio doing a scan search when it stoped on a monstrous blues groove featuring some blazing gtr. and tight harmonies. I thought I had stumbled onto a hot muddy Mississippi blues station, then I realized, hey, how come I know all the words to this tune? I thought to myself, is this something I've worked on in the past? Then the dj confirmed my suspicions when he announced it was the angels latest release. I yelled so loud I woke the kids! Let me tell you....your gonna love this one and the angels are GEN-U-INE! THEY ARE SOME OF THE NICEST AND MOST SINCERE CATS IN THE BUSINESS AND FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN, THEY LIVE WHAT THEY'RE SINGING ABOUT. I should know. I've been engineering gospel records for the last 22 years....5 stars."
