A cool 80s - Funky Electric Sound
drummernik | 06/12/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"What style is Alphonse Mouzon's "The Sky is the limit"? A very hard question, at least for me. Well, this Cd has a special sound, it's 80s music with a kind of Disco, Funk and R&B feeling. When I listen to that Cd I can sense a special feeling of the 80s. Alphonse uses lots of electric drums and he shows funky drumming on songs like "Why don't you brake it" , "Do you wanna dance" , "Come and see what I've got" and "Don't brake my funk". For some of you this music might sound kinda "old" and even "ridicolus" and I could understand it , but note that it was just this time period. This music is not timeless and you can hear that music has changed. But it is a great tribute to the old times if you listen to it now. The last four tracks are bonus tracks from the yet not re-released Lp on Pausa called "11th House" feat. Larry Coryell, Mike Mandel, John Lee and Teromasa Hino. The absolute killer cuts of this Cd are "On More time" , "Starting all over again", "Do you wanna Dance", "Come and see what I've got" and the Mouzon classic "Rock'n' Roll Waltz".All in all I'd say if you like 80s instrumental this is a great Cd for you, if you don't like it this Cd won't make you happy!"
