Synopsis

Product Description
Haven't heard of Skidmore Fountain? Think ELO and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Think Flaming Lips and Can. Think Terry Riley and Talking Heads. Channeling a kindred spirit, NYC-based indie rock band Skidmore Fountain is a bit on the unconventional side, with five-string electric cello (its fifth string acts as bass), guitar, drums and vocals making up the group. Skidmore Fountain brings the recording studio to the stage, with live string arrangements and ambient soundscapes looping through an Echoplex, vocals intensified through analog delay pedals, and lushly orchestrated guitar lines, all sitting atop pounding, old-school R&B and dub rhythms.

CD Reviews

Love this Fun CD!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Had the chance to catch the band live recently. Watching them, you get the feeling you're in on something that's about to explode. Listening to their latest CD, you know they won't be below the mainstream radar for much longer. With sure hits as "Asylum", (which despite its rather dark title has quite an upbeat danceable hook to it), "Purple Mountain Glow", (crank your radio way up genre), "When the Sun Shines" (this song is just COOL!), and "Whole World", (which may arguably be the best song on the CD, stylistically speaking), this CD should not be taken lightly.

I rate this CD five stars for: 1-Band composition: smooth guitar, pulsating drums, melodic keyboards and synthesizer, and a fascinating electric cello!, 2-Great lyrics: "Time don't take no prisoners/we take ourselves prisoners", 3-Vocals, from the lead singer's clear and emotive delivery to the whole band's well blended harmonizing, 4-The diversity in song type from one to the next, and 5-Overall CD is a good time!

When you see Skidmore Fountain climbing up the charts, don't say I didn't tell you so.
