Best of the Best/ Skeeter Davis

"In 1978, Skeeter Davis accepted an offer from Moe Lytle to re-record her RCA hits for release on his budget label, Gusto Records. Ten of them have been chosen for this CD reissue on the Federal label, a subsidiary of Gusto. Although she sang them beautifully, retaining the same arrangements, the original RCA versions are by far the best ones, and shall always remain the definitive ones, as well. Skeeter was, after all, at her peak, vocally, in the sixties. So, if you're seeking to buy your first collection by her, I would recommend RCA's "Essential Collection" for a mix of her country and pop hits, or Taragon's "Pop Hits Collection" if you prefer only her pop/girl group sound. These re-recordings, on the other hand, may appeal to fans who, like myself, saw her perform in the late seventies.
