Debbie Joni Kathy and Kim were born to a musical family in the late 1950's. With the encouragement of their mother who was a professional entertainer they began singing at church. Soon after they appeared together at civic and political events billed as "Mrs. William's Grandchildren" a name taken for their grandmother Viola Williams a former opera singer. They first recorded as "Sister Sledge" in 1971 and continued releasing material in various styles throughout the 1970's.
