Synopsis

Album Description
Limited enhanced digipak edition of this 2009 release from the Norwegian Metal band featuring three bonus tracks: 'The Path To Decay' (Radio Mix) and instrumental versions of 'The Mind Maelstrom' and 'Winterbornn 77'. In 2006 Sirenia released Nine Destinies And A Downfall which turned out to sound more powerful and heavier than its two predecessors. The album gained the band access to a broader audience. The 13th Floor is the logical continuation of what the band did in the past years and will definitely take Sirenia to the next level, that is for sure! A must-have for fans of Nightwish, Lacuna Coil and Evanescence. Nuclear Blast.

CD Reviews

Beautiful music flawed by death metal growl
Ian Kaplan | Livermore, CA | 03/21/2010
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I've thought about buying this album for some time. I finally listened to most of it on Youtube. The reviewers who write that this is beautiful music that is ruined by death metal growling are absolutely right. The attraction of the death metal Cookie Monster growl escapes me. I find it especially sad in the case of Sirenia, which has the musical beauty of Xandria (Ravenheart) at their best. But this beauty is shattered by bizarre growling. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to hear most of the album so that I did not waste my money. I also listened to Nine Destinies and a Downfall and An Elixir for Existence. Like The 13th Floor, both were like a beautiful woman covered with deaths head tattoos: beauty needlessly ruined. I will not be buying anythign by Sirenia.

A Beautiful, Exciting Album RUINED!
Keen Incite | 12/09/2009
(2 out of 5 stars)

"I just stumbled upon "The 13th Floor" in my quest for new music. I listened to the whole album, and was quite taken by the beautiful melodies and female vocals with an exciting power chord metal underpinning UNTIL..... Morten decided the track wasn't complete until he added his puerile "death vocals." It absolutely RUINED everything - and it's on nearly every track.

Morten, note to self: play your instruments and SHUT...UP!!"
Perfect vocalist for what they want to achive
Necronomicona | Somewhere, USA | 02/18/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I wasn't happy with 9, the vocalist seemed a little too poppy for the metal, and each song started out heavy, then slowed to halt for the vocals...mismanaged choir peices just placed whereever....3 songs were good,..but 13th floor is amazing. Not quite Lithium and a Lover, but growling vocals are more apparent, and the the female lead is way better than on 9. Similar style, but much prettier, and compliments the music so much. I hope though, that male vocals will be more prominent in the next one and i hope they don't follow trend and get yet a different female vocalist for thier next album. The should just keep what works."
