"This CD is worth several times its price if for no other incentive than Dick Foley's rendering of "Rock Me Grandpa." If you don't get wistful listening to that, you might oughta check into a mirror and make sure you're like, actually, a HUMAN. But it's only one of many pieces that recommend this 2006 production.



Terry Lauber, a latter-day "Brother" of the Four and Dick's partner here, produced "Sing It Again," and he couldn't have put it together more creditably. You're going to hear songs and sounds that bring back exquisitely The Brothers Four of circa 1962, melded seamlessly into the group's post-Folk Era work. The transitional acoustic classic "City of New Orleans" is the opening track. You get Lightfoot, Tyson, Dylan, Seeger, Simon, Hardin, Paxton. Interspliced, you hear some of the songs that drew us to the BF back when: Dick's "Seven Daffodils" and "Four Strong Winds," most notably. (BTW, they recreate "The Gypsy Rover" with PRECISELY the correct chord progression, IMHO.)



Terry nobly downplays his contributions to the BF legacy--excessively, I think, for he really added so much in his own right. We might think of this as "The Brothers Four With Terry Lauber."



My personal favorite cut--I'm a Christian--is "Poor Wayfaring Stranger."



Tell you what. I bought my copy for . . . way too little. Wanna buy it from me? We're talkin' three figures. Maybe four.
