"This very well engineered set does Mozart's music proud. There are no biographical notes with the CDs. One assumes that the soloists are all first chair players of the London Philharmonic. It is interesting to note how the orchestra plays differently for the two conductors. Under Mackerras, the orchestra is all elegance and beautifully proportioned textures. Under Litton, the sound is beefier and more vigorous. Both approaches are appealing. Perhaps the best performance here is the Sinfonia Concertante. The four soloists are not only good in their own right; they blend together effortlessly, too. I am surprised this disc had been removed from the catalog. It offers Mozart playing of the highest quality."
