"This incredible CD brings to the fruition the cycle of complete quartets of Shostakovich performed by the award winning St.Petersburg Quartet. Nothing is left to the chanse : the cover picture suits the dark colour of Shostakovich's music very well, the balance is perfect, instruments blend into one atmospheric tone, and the pianist is brilliant. The Quartet couldn't make a better choise by inviting this guy to this incredible adventure

of dark passion and grandeur. If you are not a big fan of Shostakovich, and I will risk by saying classical music in general, this recording will make you truly understand what real, serious music is about, and may make you fall in love with it. Lets hope the CD will win numerous awards, that the St.Petersburg Quartet is used to win for their recordings (let alone such prizes as Grammy nomination or best CD of the year, for their previous discs, which you might want to purchase as well).
