Synopsis

Album Description
Over time production standards change and of course musical styles change, but Shona's music surpasses all that, and it has been such fun revisiting her craft once again. In going through her enormous collection of works the only difficult part of this compilation has been what to leave off ! This compilation flows as if it were one incredible piece of work and that too is testament to the fact that Shona has written and produced songs that are ageless. 30 tracks in all. Sony.

CD Reviews

One of the best to come from New Zealand....
J. Bilby | Kingston, New Hampshire United States | 03/12/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ever since I first heard "Soviet Snow" back in the late
80's, I just had to find everything I could from this
talented singer/songwriter/musician from New Zealand.
She's been at this business since she was young winning
songwriting contests in her homeland and gave the big
time a shot over in Europe during the 80's, hitting the
USA shores with her "Glad I'm not a Kennedy" single, which
was played allot on radio. Never aspiring to be a top 40
act she carved her own place in the music world singing
about our planet wows and about love and life. I still
put her music on and this new double Cd Essential Shona
is all her best from over the years and well worth it to
have in your collection. I have many favorites and new
ones I had never heard her perform. "Across the Irish Sea"
is a great addition from her mid 90's cd "Roadworks" that
was next to impossible to find, unless you search in New
Zealand music online. A truly gifted songwriter and singer
and excellent human being, I hope she gets more music out
in the future and play here again in the states. I recently
bought several Cds from a fellow musical friend whom she
produced, Mahinarangi Tocker. Shona is still out there
alive and well."
