"Shirley Temple. Sure, she was cute, but these are great, well-crafted pop songs. Particularly the compositions by Bullock-Spina and Gordon-Revel. This French-made import appears to be a nicely packaged set containing all the songs Shirley Temple performed during the course of her film career. While the production value of the box-sleeve and booklet is impressive, the content and quality of the recordings are not. Firstly, there are some gaps in Shirley's repertoire as represented here (which wouldn't be such a crime if it weren't for the fact that at least 20% of the material you get is performed by other actors in her films!). The sound quality is totally unacceptable. Granted, these are 60+ year-old recordings, but they are audibly inferior even to the hard-to-find Shirley LPs released in the 70's. Finally, and you're not gonna believe this, some of the tracks sound like they were actually mastered off of vinyl sources. How do I know? You can hear the record skipping!"
I'm sure I would like it if...

"Of all the adorable songs that Shirley Temple sang in her movies, why was this excerpt from Stand Up and Cheer chosen as a sample of the CD set? It's terrible. There are so many wonderful songs in the set such as Animal Crackers in my Soup, or On the Good Ship Lolly Pop, or At the Codfish Ball, and many, many more. If you expect to sell this CD, you'd better pick a better sample song for potential customers to listen to. I gave it five stars only because I've heard these songs from other sources and know they're wonderful."

"Even though "Stand Up and Cheer" has 60 songs on 3 CDs, the two volume "America's Sweetheart" compilation actually has 19 songs that are NOT in this box set...But since there are NO box sets containing ALL of the music from ALL of Shirley's films. This one seems like a good place to start, unless, of course you care about quality. See Gary's review for that...Tracks on "America's Sweetheart" that are NOT on "Stand Up and Cheer"...Volume One: 2, 5, 9, 13, 17, 19, 23, 24, 25Volume Two: 5, 11, 12, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26"
