CD Reviews

A CD FILLED WITH MAGICAL BEATS
Tri Nguyen | San Jose, CA USA | 04/17/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Only in My Dreams" is Shayla first American CD working with Global sound! After listening to this CD I was very happy that Shayla represented us asian-american society. Her CD featured many famous artist such as Martin Nievera, KaLa'I Miller and her own mom Thanh Tuyen. All the songs in this CD were written with passion. The lyrics are emotional and deep. The beats and rhymth are magical stars! A different and unique taste of music! SHayla also co-produced three songs: Only in my dreams, Open up your Heart, and Thank U. This is a CD perfect for this type of season! Maurice Starr and Matt Young have created a new fantastic artist to the music chart. Buy this CD, you won't regret it!"
Not just a pretty face

"I saw this CD while browsing through a local music store. I have to admit, the pretty face on the cover caught my eyes. I thought I'll listen to a few tracks to see if it's worth the time. Well, to make a long story short, I now own the CD."
Shayla - A Name to Remember

"First of all, the sample clips of this CD is so so misleading. I feel that people may be turned off by the sample clips. If you really want to sample it then at least go to a real music store and listen there. The real CD sound quality is excellent!!Shayla's voice has developed and evolved to a new height with this CD. You will see how versertile her voice can be with "Love Can Last Forever" and "Open Arms". Both tracks are beautiful love ballad and really demonstrate the flexibility of Shayla's voice. Shayla's proved that she can do it "slow", as well as "fast". I feel a definate single release for "Love Can Last Forever" is a must. But also don't forget "Once Upon a Kiss" (feat Martin Nievera - the guy lives up to his title "King of Concert") this a beautiful Disney-like style ballad love song. I feel that Disney should buy this song for their future movies. I love this track and I'm becoming Martin's fan. One of my favourite tracks is "Only In My Dreams" (co-wrote with Shayla). This song is so beautiful, mellow and groovy (POP/R&B). I love the lyrics, very simple but very spiritually meaningful/effective. I can see another single release for this. I also really love "Don't Go/I'll Be Your Everything", both really good dance pop track that you can dance and sing to. Please release these as singles.Ok, let's talk about the more "serious" side of Shayla with the track "Open Up Your Heart" (co-wrote with Shayla) duet with her extremely famous mom Thanh Tuyen. The lyrics are deep and meaningful, and it's about healing the past, forgiving and looking forward to the future, in general. But it's also about Human Rights and bridging the two VietNamese generations. This track is highly original (featuring VietNamese lyrics) and very well produced. Shayla did an amazing job in this song, and you will acquire to love this track. Another track "Thank U" was also (co-wrote with Shayla) a fun dance song which shows her appreciation to all fans who have been supporting her since the begining - "we love you too Shayla!"The rest of the tracks are quite good but peronally I don't think they are as good as the other tracks. They are more of a "B-side" tracks to complement the CD, but nevertheless they are good enough. Another thing I feel about this CD is that I wish Shayla would do more dance tracks. It just that I rather do it on the dance floor than romance. I guess Shayla wanna show her "soft" side with this CD or maybe they think it will go down better with the listeners...I don't know. I can see that Shayla will be sticking around for a long time, it may take time but she will get there. Lets get use to the name "Shayla" because you will be hearing from her..."
