One of the Great Cello Concertos of All Time

"It is strange that the Shostakovich cello concertos are well known and this piece is not on people's radar. While Shostakovich's perhaps sound a bit more modern and edgy, this piece has drama not found in the Shostakovich ones: buildups of great tension that make the whole concerto aspect the more compelling. I saw this piece performed live a few years ago and it was insanely exciting, got a very strong reception.

The Romeo and Juliet Suite included is also great. It has the quiet Aubade that is hypnotizing."
