Synopsis

Product Description
Schubert's first introduction to music making was through the violin; he received lessons from his father at the age of eight. He would join the family string quartet as a violist some six years later, giving him access to product testers for compositions requiring any combination of string players, including those for violin and piano. Still, the works Schubert composed for his first instrument and piano remain in the shadow of his more celebrated repertoire for solo piano; they are hopefully brought into the light here. Since 1964 Arnold Steinhardt has been the first violinist of the internationally acclaimed Guarneri String Quartet. A student of Rudolf Serkin and Mieczyslaw Horszowski at the Curtis Institute of Music, Seymour Lipkin won the prestigious Rachmaninoff Competition at age 19. Since 1987, Mr. Lipkin has been the Artistic Director of the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, and is on the faculties of both the Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music.
