CD Reviews

Very Cool

"I've always liked surf music, but admit to not being really knowledgeable on this cool, but almost nameless music genre. Well, I think that stops now....I recently bought this CD and I was knocked out with this band and disc. It looks like Satan's Pilgrims (what a name!) has been around for sometime and this self-titled CD and LP (still making vinyl) is the first I've heard by the band....and it rocks. They have elements of the 60's surf sound, but they take it to the next level, with great arrangements and even a punk rock attitude to go with it. I was even surprised with all the instruments used...not just guitar and drums- there was great organ (Hammond and Vox to these ears), electric piano, percussion, trumpet and sax, even 12 string guitars. Great songs include "Mutha Fuzz" (surf meets James Brown's band), "Beach Binge" (great melody) and Brahms "Hungarian Dance No. 5" (yes, classical surf!). Excellent CD. Highly recommended!!"
GREAT RECORD...COOL BAND

"Cool band, GREAT record. These guys are the best modern surf band today. They play it the way it's meant to be played and they rock in the process. This, their fifth record, is their best- great songs that are memorable and a sound that can only be described as the "Pilgrim-Sound" bringin' it home. This is their first on MuSick Recordings and it's perfect because this label is the best for surf/instro and the Pilgrims are the best, too. Rock on to the sounds of SATAN'S PILGRIMS...."
