Great Jazz Trio
Robert J. Ament | Ballwin, MO United States | 06/01/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"When I go to a jazz club to hear a good jazz trio, this is the type of program and musicianship I hope to hear....a good mixture of fast tunes, ballads and blues. When you consider the personnel, you know you're going to get some swingin' arrangements. This cd was one of those live performances where the audience and the musicians connected and the results are fantastic. There aren't ANY bad tracks but my favorites are the title track, "Tanga", "Brown's New Blues", and "When You Go". Jeff Hamilton is one of the best drummers around. Ray Brown has always been an all-universe bassist and in Benny Green, I hear Oscar Peterson (no surprise), Gene Harris, and just a bit of Red Garland. He "quotes" other tunes really well while improvising and brings the listener some delightful anticipation of what "surprises" might come next.I don't see how you can go wrong with this one.....especially if you like your jazz with great piano, bass and drums."
Swinging LIVE , with a varied program of great songs

"This is a great live trio album which has been beautifully recorded to preserve all the punch and dynamics , of which there are plenty .

Buy this if you would like to hear great examples of jazz bass , jazz piano and jazz drums - actually , that label limits the musicians' talents .

You will be clicking your fingers to many of the songs - the arrangements are tight and showcase each member .

We are fortunate to have documents like this - Ray will be missed for his immense contribution to bass playing .

This album shows why he is so revered .

Very enjoyable - try it for yourself !"
Simply superb...

"Not much to add to what's already been said. I'm a huge fan of all three amazing musicians and this album is one of the most often played in my large collection of jazz CD's. Don't forget to check out Ray, Jeff and Gene Harris - mind-blowing stuff! Ray, hope you're still swingin' it up there!"
