A "Must" for Sara Montiel fans

"I met Sara Montiel back in 1998 when she visited Chile for two recitals at the "Adobes the Argomedo", a well-known and prestigious cabaret downtown Santiago. A charming lady, she looked both pale and tired the two instances that I talked to her. Despite her weariness, her performances in the two night engagements were flawless and highly professional. She sang several cuplés and some boleros which are included in this album. However, her voice obviously sounds much younger and fresher in the CD than in her personal appearance. The album collects those songs from her early mexican period, included in movies such as "Ahi Viene Martin Corona", "Ella, Lucifer y Yo", "Yo Soy Gallo Donde Quiera", "Piel Canela", "¿Porqué Ya no Me Quieres?" y "Se Solicitan Modelos". The album is quite different from others by Mrs. Montiel since it contains original recordings and it's not a mere re-edition of songs previously recorded and published. The technical quality is not the best since the sound has been taken directly from the movies. Even more, when she sings "Perfidia", for instance (from the "Piel Canela" soundtrack), you can hear background voices and noices from the corresponding scene. Anyway, these flaws (which justify my four stars) give the album an added value for the ones who like to collect historical recordings on pop culture. The excellent booklet is a real collectors item: you have small reproductions from the movie posters and a detailed account on Sara Montiel, the songs and the movies herein included."
