Synopsis

Product Description
Sandra McCracken's fourth release, The Builder And The Architect takes her well-loved folk/rock songwriting and applies it to hymns. Whether it's old hymns texts with brand new music ("Thy Mercy," "Sovereign Grace") or new hymns ("Awake My Soul," "Rock Of Ages (When The Day Seems Long)"), Sandra's gentle touch delicately frames the often-weighty lyrics. Arrangements are sparse compared to her other records, with touches of cello, banjo, lap steel and upright bass giving the songs a shimmering fragility. "I Boast No More" features a performance by Grammy-nominated, Americana Music Association award-winning artist Buddy Miller.

CD Reviews

THIS CD IS CONSISTENTLY AMAZING
Doctor Jay | Jackson, MS USA | 02/16/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There's three features of this CD that set it apart and make it a compelling, amazing treat for the ears. First, there's Sandra McCracken's voice, one of the most emotionally nuanced voices I've ever heard. I never tire of listening to her, and every listen reveals something else amazing about her vocals. Second, there's the choice of material, some of the most encouraging and substantive I've heard. In an age in which sentimentality and fluff repeated ad nauseum seem to dominate the Christian music scene, McCracken's songs reflect both the realism and hope that should characterize quality Christian music. Third, the production, sparse but multitextured, layered and never in the way - it's like spice sprinkled sparingly to food, making it tasty rather than overpowering it. I could go on, but I'll just leave you with one thought: This CD just gets better with every hearing. It's a gift from a gifted artist and a genuine treasure you'll treasure!"
