The Cleverest Instrumentalist I Ever Heard
J. Crosby | 02/07/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"When I get together with other guitarists there are certain names that come up all the time--names that always garner plenty of OOHS and AHHS from fellow pickers. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Charlie Byrd, Chet Atkins and Les Paul come to mind. These guys are the best. But the CLEVEREST guitarist I ever heard is this man Sam Hinton. His unassuming arrangements are just astounding. Listen carefully enough and you can go nuts trying to figure out how the man gets so many things happening at once on an old, beat-up six string acoustic guitar.
It is a delight to discover that so much of his comprehensive collection of folk tunes, ballads, children's songs and other selections are finally available on CD.
This is that disk I would keep over and above all others if I were going to be tossed out onto that proverbial "desert island.""
Great stuff!
