CD Reviews

Excellent CD - shame about Miyuki
Jeffrey Boydstun | Terra, Sol System | 01/17/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I'm going to go ahead and review every track on this CD, because I'm just like that. Well, the vocal ones, anyway.

1) Last Change. This is Kanbe Miyuki's (Sailor Moon's) signature song, and unfortunately it's all wrong for her. Miyuki has a lovely voice when she sings low. Unfortunately, when she goes higher, she gets very nasal and annoying. "Last Change" is *all* high, making it quite annoying. This one song is the reason I'm marking this CD down from five stars to four.

2)Honoo no Messenger. I love this song, and Kanda Eri's rendition of it is lovely.

3) Zigzag Slash. A very... dramatic song, with lots of brass and string orchestrals and soaring chords--very appropriate for a song about lightning. Kuriyama Emi has always been my favorite Jupiter, and she sings this song very well.

4) Drive Me the Mercury. Ah, Kawabe Chieko. This young lady is all over Live-Action Sailor Moon, as she not only played Mercury in the musicals, but also Usagi's best friend Naru (Molly, for you dubbies) in the live-action TV show. She has a lovely singing voice, and sings this song with lots of energy.

5) Traditional the Grace ~Ai no Arashi~. I *love* this song, it's probably my favorite on the disc. Murata Ayumi's rendition captures Minako's energy and slight silliness, while keeping her power as the Senshi of Love and Beauty.

6) Sailor War 2001. I'm not a big fan of the remake of this song, but it still carries a lot of power, and the lyrics are as strong as ever. A very emotional song.

7) Koi no Senshi ja Irarenai! I love this song, as sung by probably my favorite musical cast ever (with the exception of Miyuki's Moon, but you can't have everything.) All the Senshi do a good job of showcasing their talents in this character introduction song.

8) Fire! Fire isn't one of my favorite battle songs, but it's still a fun and danceable song. It also contains some Miyuki solos where she gets to sing low, thus allowing her to show off her actual vocal talent.

9) Everlasting Moonlight! Another fun battle song, this one contains a bit more power than the previous track. With a lovely rhythm that always make me bob my head, this song is definitely a must for anyone who enjoys the Seramyus. And finally...

10) La Soldier! The theme song of all the Myus, every Myu CD must have this song at least once. This is probably my favorite song in all the musicals, performed by my favorite Second Stage cast. Unfortunately, this is the one chorus version, but it still gives Miyuki another low-pitched solo.

The rest of the tracks are simply karaoke, and I won't bother going over them. They're excellent, however."
Excellent CD

"This CD from the Sailor Moon Musicals contains some excellent songs. It features the characters songs including, "Drive Me The Mercury." And most of the great fight songs with the tight vocal harmonies. My favorites are 21st Century, Sailor Wars, and Fire. The last half of the CD are the Karaoke versions of the songs. This is an fine addition to any Sailor Moon collection. You can thank me later. Great CD!"
