CD Reviews

Laid back and relaxing
Dr.D.Treharne | Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom | 04/25/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album was recorded in January 1999 in NYC by a basic quartet of Watanabe on alto sax,Cyrus Chestnut on piano, Christian Mc Bride on Bass and Billy Drummond on drums. On tracks 1,3& 9 Nicholas Peyton guests on flugelhorn or trumpet,on tracks 2,4 & 8 Robin Eubanks guests on trombone and on tracks 7 & 10 Romero Lubambo guests on acoustic guitar. The other tracks feature the quartet where the interplay between Chestnut and Watanabe is heard to spectacular effect. Chestnut is, where it's needed, at his muscular best and Watanabe wraps himself around the piano sound.Outstanding tracks are the title track and "Times Up", with Peyton adding great flugelhorn to "Smokin' Area" and trumpet on "Dim Blue".Eubanks contributes to a laid back ambience on the tracks that he features on, but I'm not certain that the two acoustic guitar tracks are effective as the other tracks, as it seems to have been mixed too far back in the recording, but it adds to the variety of what is an excellent, mainly mellow album. This is a Watanabe album that is well worth searching for."

"I am under impression after first listening to this marvellous music -- full of beauty and feeling. This is very relaxing not fatiguing, so you can play it again many times. I can recommend this CD to everyone who like masterpieces and easy listening music."
